Jitterbug phone

Hi. I’m Wade Wingler with the Indata Project at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indiana. You know we see a lot about smart phones and very fancy phones doing a lot things these days, but sometimes you just need a phone that is simple and does a little bit less in a little more straight-forward way. Belva Smith is going to show us the Jitterbug and some of the cool things that you can do with it. Let’s check this out.

Belva: Hi. I’m Belva Smith an assistive technology specialist here at Easter Seals Crossroads and today my tech tip is just going to be about a phone that’s been around for a long time. It’s called the Jitterbug Plus and for those of you who might want to have a cell phone in case of an emergency, but you just don’t want to be bothered with the trouble of learning how to use one of the smart phones or maybe you don’t want to pay the high expense for having one of the smart phones, the Jitterbug might just be the answer for you and also especially if you are low vision because it does have…

It’s just a simple flip phone and it does have little bit larger buttons that are very easy to feel as you move your finger around the screen and it’s just a standard phone key pad with a simple on/off button, volume up, volume down, and it does have a speaker and then it’s got a yes and no button in case it asks you a question on the screen. It also does have a built in camera so if you want to capture some pictures of your grandkids or some of your favorite activities you will be able to do that with this phone and the plans for this phone start at around $14.99 a month and you can pick up one of these phones and then to get it activated you just have to dial a phone number which there will be a start here sheet inside of your box and it will give you the phone number to dial.

Now it’s very important to remember that you don’t want to turn the phone on until you have actually dialed that phone number. Because, when you dial that number they are going to walk, you through the entire set up process. So, you won’t be on your own and there going to tell you exactly when to turn your phone on and so for $14.99.  You’ll be able to place calls, receive calls, take pictures and all of that without having to worry about, how to use a smart phone or pay those high monthly bills and that’s my tech tip for today. Again, that’s the Jitterbug Plus.

Wade: So, there’s a great way to use a phone when it just needs to be a phone. That’s your tech tip for this week. I’m Wade Wingler with the Indata Project at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indiana.
